Tarynn M. Witten

Witten, PhD, LCSW, FGSA, is a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America and holder of the Inaugural Nathan W. and Margaret Shock New Investigator Research Award from the Gerontological Society of America. She is currently an associate professor of Biological Complexity, Emergency Medicine, and Gerontology and an adjunct associate professor Social Work and Womens’ & Gender Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University. In the past, Dr. Witten has served as one of the consortium members of the Biomarkers of Aging Project located at the National Institutes of Health/National Institute on Aging. Currently, in addition to her other teaching and research duties, Dr. Witten is a member of the consulting consortium of the Healthy People 2010 Project and formerly served on the founding Board of Directors of the National AIDS and HIV over Fifty Association (NAHOF). Dr. Witten has also served on the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force on Aging and serves as a member of the Virginia Commission on Aging. She is the founder and director of the Transgender Longitudinal Aging Research Study. Dr. Witten has presented numerous international scientific talks, panels and training sessions on transgender violence and abuse, transgender and intersex aging and related issues.
