1Kate Kourbatova is a gender-fluid human from Eastern Europe, currently living in Seattle, Washington. While earning her degree in anthropology and restoration ecology at the University of Washington, she delved into the interrelationships between cultures and the environment, between identity and the body, and between language and power. Her research explores non-binary trans* identities and narratives outside the medicalized path of transition. Beyond academia, Kate is a queer community organizer, facilitating discussion groups, campus events, and working on local political campaigns. Other identities include: tree-shepherd, music-maker, and avid tea drinker.
