ImagesHandler.ashxMaura J. Wogan is a partner of Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz focusing on media law, publishing, copyright, and litigation. Ms. Wogan has over 25 years of legal experience in all aspects of sophisticated intellectual property law, including litigation, counselling, and pre-publication review of intellectual property in all media. She advises clients in the publishing industry, including both traditional and online publishers, literary agents, book packagers, writers and illustrators. She also drafts and negotiates agreements for numerous publishing clients. In 2012, she was named a New York-area “Super Lawyer” for Intellectual Property by Law and Politics magazine for the seventh consecutive year. Ms. Wogan recently represented filmmaker Joe Berlinger in his appeal of a lower court decision ordering him to turn over more than 600 hours of unused film footage from the documentary film Crude to Chevron Corp. She also currently represents Fredrik Colting, author of 60 Years Later: Coming Through the Rye, and his U.S. distributor, in a lawsuit brought by J.D. Salinger alleging copyright infringement. She has also recently represented Tribune Media Services in a lawsuit brought by actor Warren Beatty over film rights to the Dick Tracy character. She represented Tribune Entertainment Company and successfully defeated the attempt by Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation to block the broadcast of a Tribune syndicated television series Mutant X. Ms. Wogan has successfully litigated numerous significant copyright cases including Craft v. Kobler (copyright infringement case in connection with an unauthorized biography of Igor Stravinsky, involving fair use concepts); Cheever v. Academy Chicago Press (copyright infringement and contract case in connection with the unauthorized publication of stories written by John Cheever); and Starobin v. Stephen King and Penguin Books U.S.A. (defense of a copyright case involving Stephen King’s bestseller Desperation.). Ms. Wogan is a graduate of St. John’s University (BA, summa cum laude, 1976) and Columbia Law School (JD, Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, 1979).
